Askey, Cumucore, and Partners Demonstrate Industrial-Grade 5G Time Synchronization at 5G-ACIA Industrial 5G Day in Helsinki
Jul.21,2025

Helsinki, Finland – July 22, 2025 - Askey proudly announces its participation in the 5G Alliance for Connected Industries and Automation (5G-ACIA) Industrial 5G Day in Helsinki. As one of the Netcom solution providers, Askey is honored to collaborate with Cumucore, a pioneer in 5G Private Mobile Network core solutions, to deliver its advanced SCE2120 Small Cell for this event.
Askey, alongside industry leaders Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., Node-H, and DNA (Telenor Group), contributes to Cumucore’s novel live demo of generalized Precision Time Protocol (gPTP) synchronization over 5G. This milestone proves time synchronization – vital for Time-Sensitive-Networking-based (TSN-based) automation – can be reliably achieved over a 5G Standalone private network. This demo advances real-time and deterministic communication for smart manufacturing, robotics, and autonomous systems, accelerating the convergence of 5G and Industry 4.0.
“The demo features Askey’s SCE2120 small cell, supporting this crucial step forward in industrial 5G applications,” said Robert Lin, CEO of Askey. “By partnering with global networking experts, Askey is accelerating the adoption of private networks and unlocking the full potential of 5G for industrial scenarios.”
"At Qualcomm Technologies, we are thrilled to have our Qualcomm Dragonwing™ FSM100 platform for small cells play a crucial role in the Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) demonstration” said Gerardo Giaretta, VP, Product Management at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “This milestone underscores our dedication to end-to-end private network enablement, ensuring that industrial applications can benefit from the precision and reliability of 5G technology. By advancing TSN over 5G, we are committed to driving the future of smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0."
Jose Costa-Requena, CEO at Cumucore, indicated “This showcases that 5G has matured to the point where it can support industrial-grade timing and synchronization requirements. It is a significant step towards making 5G a true enabler of Industry 4.0.”
Mike Cronin, CEO of Node-H, commented “This case is a great example of how 5G technology is evolving to meet the precision and reliability needs of industrial automation. By enabling gPTP synchronization over 5G, we’re helping to close the gap between wireless and wired networks in factory settings. Today we are demonstrating that real-time, deterministic communication is achievable over cellular.”
This collaborative live demo at the 5G-ACIA Industrial 5G Day in Helsinki underscores a pivotal advancement in industrial connectivity. By successfully showcasing gPTP synchronization over 5G, Askey, Cumucore, Qualcomm, Node-H, and DNA are driving the integration of Time-Sensitive Networking into mobile networks - a critical enabler for the future Industry 4.0.
