Askey and EdgeQ Introduce Industry’s First All-in-One 5G Femtocell for Network Densification in Residential and Enterprise Environments
Mar.02,2026

Askey, a member of ASUSTek Computer and leader in network communications and electronics manufacturing, and EdgeQ, the market leader in 5G wireless infrastructure, jointly unveil the next generation of 5G femtocells at the Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2026. As an industry first, this ultra-low power 5G femtocell integrates both 4G and 5G on a single chip while maximizing density, coverage, and bandwidth capacity via FDD spectrum efficiency. The over-the-air, software programmable femtocell allows clients to dynamically reconfigure and elastically scale from 4G to 5G without hardware change, redesign, or reinstallation. The chipset architecture comes natively capable of Edge AI inference, the only solution converging wireless communications with inference compute in one. The femtocell complements Askey’s portfolio offering of mobile computing, 5G end devices, and private 5G networks solutions for enterprise, industrial and residential use.
Enabled by EdgeQ’s “Base Station-on-a-Chip,” the design point of the ultra-compact femtocell can flexibly serve both residential and enterprise environments. Built to scale up to 32 users, the Askey femtocell can simultaneously and concurrently support 4G+5G, multiple bands, all across a broad spectrum. All features can be dynamically upgraded over-the-air. The collaboration compacts the scale, performance, and density of a traditional base station into an ultra-compact, light form factor that sits on a tabletop. The power efficient femtocell operates on PoE+. It is designed for 5G indoor environments, suitable for urban densification, private enterprise networks, autonomous mobility, and industrial and physical AI.
As the industry evolves to 5G-Advanced, this partnership strategically positions Askey to offer new levels of enhanced capabilities and advanced use cases for verticals that unify enhanced mobility, protected networks, along with edge artificial intelligence (AI). By leveraging an elastic, programmable silicon that converges 5G connectivity and compute, Askey provides a comprehensive suite of solutions that formulate rich connectivity for residents, to industrial IOT and physical AI, to enterprise private networks, and evolution beyond smartphones.
Robert Lin, CEO of Askey, said: “Our collaboration with EdgeQ redefines the economics of 5G. By converging 4G, 5G, and Edge AI onto a single, software-programmable chip, we’ve compressed the power of a traditional base station into an ultra-compact form factor. This industry-first femtocell allows clients to elastically scale and future-proof networks without hardware changes, fulfilling our vision of providing seamless, smart connectivity for enterprise, industrial, and residential scenarios.”
Vinay Ravuri, Founder and CEO of EdgeQ, said: “Our partnership with Askey underscores how our Base Station-on-a-Chip SoC solution is fundamentally transforming the accessibility and unit economics of 5G. What we enable is a new category of 5G small cell that compacts all the richness and density of a traditional base station into a miniature, lightweight form factor, suitable for residential and enterprise environments. This is foundational to fulfilling Askey’s vision of a unified mobility in an intelligently connected infrastructure.”
