From Biodiversity Governance to the Black Soldier Fly Circular Economy: Partnering with Local Communities to Realize the "Nature Positive" Vision

Askey Chairman Robert Lin led staff in hosting an ESG seminar at Dragonfly Stone Farm
Amid the global trend toward sustainable development, integrating environmental (E), social (S), and governance (G) factors and creating positive impact through “Nature-based Solutions (NbS)” has become a key challenge for companies implementing ESG practices. Askey, a networking solution provider with a long-standing commitment to smart communication domains, such as 5G private networks, IoT, and IoV, this year officially launched the “Communicate Love, Love Communication” Green Circular ESG Sustainability Initiative. This initiative extends the company’s core spirit of connection and communication to ecological and social care. Through a series of actions — including advanced governance capacity building, donations of low-carbon black soldier fly recycling equipment, and the promotion of permaculture sustainable class design — the company is putting the NbS philosophy into practice, collaborating with local communities to co-create “Nature Positive” outcomes and social impact. This initiative aims to create environmental and social value in collaboration with local partners through three key actions: ESG capacity building for senior executives, the implementation of a circular economy, and community ecological development.
[Initiative 1] ESG Capacity-Building for Senior Executives to Deepen Sustainability Governance
On June 2, Askey held an ESG capacity-building seminar for senior executives at the Dragonfly Stone Farm in Yilan. Chairman Robert Lin led department heads in full participation, and sustainability experts from various fields were invited to deliver lectures and engage in discussions. The program focused on three key topics: “biodiversity,” “natural carbon sinks,” and “labor rights.” It aimed to help the company master the latest GRI biodiversity and IFRS sustainability disclosure standards, deepen understanding of nature-related risks and opportunities, and integrate the concept of natural carbon sinks into corporate decision-making, thereby gradually establishing a science-based sustainability governance framework.
[Initiative 2] Donating Black Soldier Fly Recycling Equipment to Establish a Circular Economy in Rural Areas
To help address the issue of community food waste disposal following the implementation of African swine fever policies, Askey has launched a local sustainability initiative. Askey has supported and introduced automated black soldier fly rearing technology developed by Professor Cheng-jen Shih of the Department of Entomology at National Taiwan University, and has leased the relevant equipment to donate to the Gukut Wuguzi tribe in Hualien. The system is expected to process approximately 80 kilograms and 400 residents' food waste daily, producing roughly 15 kilograms of black soldier fly larvae and yielding about 25 kilograms of organic insect manure fertilizer each day. This model not only reduces the environmental costs of food waste disposal but also establishes a circular economy demonstration project for remote communities.
[Initiative 3] Introduce the Permaculture Design Course (PDC) to Create a Community Model That Benefits Both Urban and Rural Areas
In the third quarter, Askey supported the community in launching the Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) program, recruiting local middle-aged and older adults as well as younger generations to create Edible Forest Gardens, enhancing soil carbon sequestration capacity and biodiversity. We look forward to gradually establishing a sustainable model community where people and nature thrive together, and both urban and rural areas prosper.
Askey stated that corporate sustainability should not be limited to carbon reduction at manufacturing sites and operational management, but should also actively engage with local communities and address social and environmental needs. The “Communicate Love, Love Communication” Green Circular ESG Sustainability Initiative connects businesses, communities, and natural ecosystems, enabling employees to deepen their awareness of sustainability through participation and collaborative learning. It extends beyond the interconnectedness of the digital world to foster a deeper understanding and dialogue between people and nature. Moving forward, Askey will continue to uphold the philosophy of “giving back to the society,” combining technological innovation with expertise in sustainable governance to establish a new model of sustainability that balances environmental value, social well-being, and economic resilience.
